Peters Township, PA – The Peters Township Unified Bocce team is gearing up for another shot at the state championship, hoping to bring home a second title. After an impressive victory in last year’s state competition, the team is hungry for another win, but their journey this season hasn’t come without its hurdles.
Coached by Mark Seckar, the team of nine athletes has worked diligently since the start of the season to sharpen their skills, improve teamwork, and focus on what’s needed to come out on top once again. Despite a challenging loss to Upper St. Clair earlier in the season, the team has shown grit and renewed determination to get back on track.
“We were disappointed by the loss to Upper St. Clair, but we’ve learned a lot from that match,” said junior Reston Lehman. “We’ve been focusing on strengthening our communication and refining our strategies. We know that the road to a state title is tough, but we’re ready to give it everything we have got.”
The Peters Township Unified Bocce team is a blend of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities, however, it is more than just a group of players; they are a family. Their bond and dedication to each other are clear both on and off the court. With practices that emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and growth, the team has become a strong platform highlight the importance of inclusivity in sports.
“It’s been an amazing season so far,” said junior Ellie Hufnagel. “We’ve faced challenges, but we’ve also had a lot of fun and learned so much together. We’re all excited to get back out there and show what we’re made of!”
The team’s commitment to excellence and sportsmanship is evident in their dedication to improving, despite the setbacks the have faced.
