The Peters Township Girls Field hockey team was led to the WPIAL championship last season by Serafina Forlini. After a heartbreaking loss to Pine Richland in the championship game Forlini and Anna Kokzynski are determined to lead the team to win a title this season.
“I’ve had such a great experience on the field hockey team. It is by far the best sport I could have played in high school. There is a level of mutual respect, connection, and genuine like towards my teammates and coaches,” said co-captain, Anna Kokozynski. “I have had an amazing experience. I have made some of my best friends and it’s a great environment to be around.”
Both Forlini and Kokozynski explained how they have enjoyed field hockey throughout the years they have played and how it’s opened them up to many new experiences and best friends. They are determined to end their senior season where they fell short last year.
“I have to demonstrate composure, patience, and at the same time aggressiveness. The consistency of these qualities is what’s going to get us to WPIALS,” Forlini said.
Kokozynski emphasized the importance of leading a team even if it is hard work and to create a positive environment for the team.
` “I plan to lead through hard work. Pushing the team to be the best individually so it translates to a stronger team holistically.” she said.
Looking ahead, the captains are determined to keep the team working together and progressively strengthen their team to make their way to the state championship and or WPIALS.
“Our strength of our team is the versatility of several of our players. We have some girls who are capable of playing forward but are also defensive minded. Our defenders are also skilled enough to carry the ball all the way up the field,” said Forlini.
Overall, Serafina and Anna demonstrate their leadership everyday through showing up for the team and continuing to work together on and off the field.
