On Sunday, August 24, Thespian Troupe 185 held their annual picnic luncheon where new members were invited to meet veteran thespians, as well as this year’s thespian officers. At the picnic, the upcoming fall play, The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, was revealed and production will start soon. Auditions for the play were held this past Thursday, and the cast list was announced the following day. The play follows a story of two narrators who set out to tell all 209 fairy tales the Grimm brothers wrote in the 1800s, but with a modern twist. For those who are interested in attending the show, performances will take place on October 16 and 18 at 7 PM, as well as October 19 at 2 PM.
Additionally, the student board announced that this year’s musical will be The Little Mermaid. This timeless classic is filled with upbeat songs, hilarious characters, and captivating costumes. The musical will begin showing next April, with a performance on April 9 at 2 PM and shows running from April 16 to 18 at 7PM. The Troupe’s musicals are usually held in March, but delayed the dates in hopes that the change will bring in a larger audience, which will generate additional funding for future theatrical endeavors.
Nearing the end of the school year, in lieu of a spring play, the Troupe will be putting on a Night of One Acts. One Acts are short plays with only one act as the name suggests, and high schools, including PTHS, often take them to competitions where troupes can win various awards for their performances. The 2026 Night of One Act Shows will run May 7 through 9 with times yet to be announced.
Furthermore, there are some new, exciting changes coming to the Troupe this year. Following former musical director Mr. C, retirement, his wife, Mrs. C’s retirement, Spanish teacher, Ms. W, will be step into the roles of director and assistant director respectively.
“I can’t wait, I think the show is going to be really fun. There’s something for everyone in this show. There’s a lot of little parts and solos and lines and really unique characters, so I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” she said in reference to the upcoming performances.
Thespian Troupe 185 is poised for another year of sharing their talents with the high school and community. Check out this website and the PTHS Showcase for ticket sales an addition information about this year’s performances.
