How to Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season
By: Natalie Zenner
Fall and winter are commonly referred to as “cold and flu season” as it is a popular time of year to feel under the weather. It is crucial to stay healthy as no one likes to get sick.
A general “number one” tip is to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly. This is a good practice to keep in mind before you eat especially. When one washes their hands with soap and water, the soap traps the germs on your hand and you rinse them off with the water. This prevents germs from entering your system and therefore causing you to get sick.
Rest is also crucial during this time. Without the proper amount of sleep, the body cannot function properly nor fight off the germs that make you sick. When resting your body can dedicate the majority of its energy to fighting off that bacteria and keeping you feeling good. Therefore, getting the right amount of sleep at night is very important to staying healthy.
Eating healthy can also be extremely beneficial to fight off illness. Having a balanced diet helps supply your body with the nutrients it needs to function well and properly. Ultimately, a healthy diet helps reinforce the sources one’s body needs to remain healthy.
