As Spring nears, it’s time for PTHS Juniors to start thinking about their futures. Students looking to go to college have many options to choose from, but a great one is right here in Pittsburgh. University of Pittsburgh, or Pitt, is a great school known for its exceptional business, engineering, and health science programs.
Pitt is a test optional school, meaning it does not require students to submit their SAT or ACT test scores. In the absence of these test scores, the admissions committee will determine admissibility by relying more heavily on other admissions factors; you will want to make sure the rest of your application effectively showcases you and your readiness for college. While this policy applies to all applicants, it is still beneficial to research the policy details to determine if you need to send in your scores if you are interested in certain scholarships, acceptance into an honors program, or a specific college/school within the University.
Pittsburgh University has a 67% acceptance rate, so most students that apply get in, but don’t take this lightly as Pitt’s admissions are still very competitive. The admissions office recommends applicants to have a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA although the average GPA accepted students from Peters have is a 4.5. Since test scores are optional, admissions rely heavily on an applicant’s school record and their curriculum rigor. It is important to keep in mind that Pitt has competitive admissions, so a high GPA is helpful during the admissions process.
If you’re interested in Pitt and want to learn more, there is a college visit at PTHS on February 27 during period 5. Sign up on Naviance to attend and a pass will be given to you through Securely.
