Whether a team sport or an individual sport the goal has always been to qualify for WPIALS for athletes in the Western Pennsylvania area. While most athletes just aim at getting a chance to compete at WPIALS, Lauren Opitz took it to the next level.
Lauren completed what is known as a WPIAL Sweep in swim. This means that she qualified for all eight of the individual swim events. This includes the 50 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 free, 100 fly, 200 free, 200 IM, and 500 free. On top of this she will be competing in relays with three of her other teammates.
She will compete at the Joseph C. Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh against the best competition in the area in hopes of competing at states. Lauren will continue her swim career at Emory University in the fall.
